World #1 To Share Her Rio Journey With BUSTLE.COM Readers

Lynnfield, MA (May 31, 2016); Kayla Harrison, fresh off a gold medal performance at the International Judo Federation World Masters in Mexico, announced today that she will be collaborating with women’s site, Bustle.com, on a diary-style series based on her road to Rio. Harrison, America’s only Olympic judo gold medalist–male or female–will offer an inside glimpse into what’s it like to be a world-class female athlete, and the trials, excitement and hard work that goes into preparing for an Olympic Games. The series will start on July 12 with additional installments scheduled for July 19 and 26.

“An important part of Bustle’s mission is to provide a platform for women to share their unique perspectives. We are so excited to be partnering with Kayla, and for our readers to experience her Rio journey along with her. As a barrier-breaking female athlete, we know her story will resonate with our Bustle audience”, said Bustle’s senior news editor, Jenny Hollander.

“While going to the Olympics is a four year adventure, the last month or so brings with it an intensity that I am looking forward to sharing with Bustle’s readers” said Harrison. “I hope I can bring them behind the scenes so they can experience Rio with me in an interesting and exciting way.”

Kayla’s first installment will document a week of training in Europe with her teammates.

By virtue of her win in Guadalajara on Sunday over long-time rival Mayra Aguiar of Brazil, Harrison secured the #1 seed at the Olympic Games competition. Ms. Harrison will compete on August 11.
