OLYMPIC CHAMPION KAYLA HARRISON ANNOUNCES NEW CLOTHING LINE
First Ever American Judo Gold Medalist Unveils Fitness Line Designed With Everyday Athlete in Mind.
New York (March 18, 2016); Kayla Harrison, the first ever American Olympic Gold Medalist—male or female—in the sport of judo, introduced the Fuji by Kayla clothing line today at the New York Athletic Club. Harrison, who is getting ready for the New York Open Championships on Sunday, which take place the NYAC, designed the line based on her desire to provide high performance workout clothing for the everyday athlete. The Fuji by Kayla line will be distributed by Hatashita Sports, which manufactures and distributes clothing and accessories for mixed martial arts.
“My goal is to create a line of clothing that combines the needs of an Olympic athlete with the comfort and wearability required by women who are fitness conscious but not necessarily looking to compete”, said Harrison. “The beauty of working with Fuji, which has a long history in mixed martial arts, is that they understand movement as well as anyone in the business so we were able to create pieces that really work for everyone. I hope people will enjoy working out or just hanging out in what we have designed. I know I do!”
Kayla Harrison burst on the international judo scene by winning the 2010 World Championships and backed that up with a Gold Medal performance at the London Games in 2012. Today she is the #1 judoka in the world in her weight class and is preparing to defend her Olympic title in Rio in August. Her appearance at the NY Open is likely her only US event prior to Rio.
“The New York Open comes at a great time in my preparation for Rio”, said Harrison. “I love the atmosphere at the NYAC and being in New York is always fun. The team concept takes a little of the pressure off but with less than five months to go before the Olympics, getting in some important competition is a big help.”
“FUJI Sports is very excited about the launch of the FUJI by Kayla Line designed and inspired by Kayla Harrison,” commented Vice President Jimmy Pedro. “For a company to have the opportunity to collaborate with such a positive and influential positive role model for female athletes worldwide is an honor, and I cannot think of a more deserving athlete to have her own line of athletic apparel.”
The result is a complete line of athletic and casual apparel for women; including, Capri Pants, Yoga Pants, Compression Shorts, Skort, Bra, Long Sleeve Rashguards, Headbands, Hats, an Athletic Workout Bag, her own personalized Judo Gi for girls, and even a line of Team Kayla Tees to support her quest to repeat as Olympic Champion in Rio 2016. All products were designed with comfort, fit, and function in mind to enable females of all ages to look great and feel great whether they are going to the gym or just hanging out at home.
“Kayla has been very involved in every aspect of the functional and technical design of the garments from the very beginning.”
